About Oggy Live Today

What is “Oggy Live Today”?

Oggy’s guitar play, singing, MC (talking), and so on., are delivered online from 22:30 JST every day in a relaxing environment. Special guests such as krystalcube, Hideki Yamamoto, and so on, also made cameo/friendship appearances, collaborating through online music performances and talk sessions.

Background

This live stream series started on Facebook on April 4, 2020, just before the announcement of the state of emergency in Japan on 2020, due to the spread of the COVID-19 infection. In order to minimize the risk of spreading the infection, we worked on the format of the activity to play live music online. Aiming to relieve as much as possible the stress of the dark and sunken world, and create a relaxed atmosphere, we “opened all year round” for one year and delivered 30 minutes show in real time every day. The daily streaming is still ongoing with the support of many friends and related parties.

Live Contents

In the streaming, guitar instrumentals of standard songs such as jazz, bossa nova, and blues, covers of famous songs picked up regardless of genre, including rock and pop, and Oggy’s original song, such as “Today” and so on, have been played.

Talks (MC) with various topics are also included, and the language changes daily between Japanese and English, so the visitors have joined from all over the world. In the streaming video, Oggy himself appears with the background photos and videos, and/or the original avatar may attend instead.

Occasionally, special guests such as krystalcube, Hideki Yamamoto, and so on, have made cameo/friendship appearances, so there are online performance collaborations and interview sessions. On Christmas Day (12/25), a Christmas live stream was held in collaboration with the Kellogg Club of Japan (Japanese alumni association of Kellogg School of Management). Oggy’s beloved wife also has appeared occasionally.

Streaming Format

The live streaming is mainly on Facebook, but there have been days when it was held on other media platforms such as YouTube. The source locations have been mostly with our simple studio settings, and there were also formats in which the contents of the event recorded at the visited locations (various places in Kanto and Kansai in Japan: for example, Yokohama “La Fiesta”) were streamed. The live is run by basically one person operation (Oggy alone sets the equipment and operates the live distribution), and various exploring gimmicks are tried experimentally and repeatedly.

Therefore, we experienced some sudden accidents such as no sound coming out during the on-air time, but each time we had friendly feedbacks from the audiences. Since the streaming started it’s been growing step by step in every aspect for the year, with helps of such harmonic audiences in the intimate atmosphere. One of its attractions is such a sense of the small community and the feeling that the unfinished items are gradually moved forward and upgraded.

It is also one of the subsidized projects of the “Reiwa 2nd Bunka Geijutsu Katsudo no Keizoku Shien (support to continue cultures and arts activities, FY2020) ” by Agency for Cultural Affairs. Until now, it has been streamed for free of charge, so anyone can join without purchasing tickets.

The situation regarding the new coronavirus is still unpredictable, but we hope the health and safety for everyone.
